As the Deer Thirsts

Our teenagers have been singing this song for a few months. I recently picked it up and introduced it to our congregation with the help of our youth minister (who is also one of our worship leaders). Like "As the Deer" it is a song of seeking to do God's will with your life. It is a very beautifuly worded and composed song. If you don't know it, it is on Zoe Group's Album 'In This Place' with the title "As the Deer". We sing both songs so I refer to this one as "As the Deer Thirsts".

The thing about this song that resonates with me is that I can almost hear David singing this song. Nathan has just shown David his sin with Bathsheba. After God allows David's child with Bathsheba to die, David washes, annoints himself, changes clothes, and goes into the house of the Lord and worships (2 Samuel 12:20). It is at this moment that I can hear David singing this song.

Here are the words. (CCLI#1283569)

As the deer thirsts for the water, Lord,
So my soul longs after you.
My soul thirsts for the living God.
Yes, my soul longs after You.

And I pour out my soul deep within me,
Deep within me I pour out my soul.
Draw me deeper, Lord.
Deeper, Lord in You.
Draw me deeper, Lord.
Deeper, Lord in You.

Have a woship-filled day!
